Where your data lives, how to back it up and move it to a new device – and what to do when the app says iCloud sync isn’t working.
In short: your data lives on your device and, if you want, in
your own iCloud. There is no account with us. For everything else there is the
backup file under Settings → Backup. It’s free, and importing
only adds – it never deletes.
Where is my data?
On your device: players, teams, seasons, games and every recorded
action.
In your iCloud, if you like. On first launch the app asks:
Back up to iCloud or This device only. With iCloud, all your Apple
devices on the same Apple ID stay in sync, e.g. iPhone and iPad. The data sits in your
personal iCloud storage; nobody else can access it.
Not with us. There is no developer server, no user account and no
sign-up.
Turning iCloud on or off
Open Settings (gear icon at the top of the main tabs), section
iCloud.
Flip the iCloud sync switch.
Restart the app once – only then does the change take effect.
Below the switch the app shows when it last synced, or what is in the way.
What the iCloud messages mean
Message
What to do
You’re not signed in to iCloud
Sign in to iCloud in the device settings. Until then the data stays on this device only; nothing is lost.
Your iCloud storage is full
Free up space or upgrade your storage in the device’s iCloud settings. This is your own iCloud storage.
No connection to iCloud right now
Nothing. Sync catches up automatically once you’re online again – typical in a sports hall.
Your iCloud account doesn’t allow syncing
Usually Screen Time or device-management rules, e.g. on a club or school iPad. Have it allowed there.
Syncing with iCloud failed
First create a backup file (see below), then report it via Settings → Send feedback. The message shows an error code – please include it.
Creating a backup file
Settings → section Backup → Back up
data.
Share backup then appears: save it to the Files app, or send it by
AirDrop or email.
The file contains all players, teams, seasons, games and stats, including the match
log. A running game clock is saved as paused, so it doesn’t catch up on all the elapsed
time when imported.
Importing a backup
Settings → Backup → Import backup.
Pick the file. The app reports how many entries it read.
Importing merges, it doesn’t replace. What already exists is updated,
what’s missing is added, and nothing is deleted. So you can import an
older backup to bring back an accidentally deleted game without losing anything newer.
Moving to a new device
New iPhone or iPad, same Apple ID, iCloud on: nothing to do.
Install the app and the data arrives from iCloud; the first launch may take a
moment.
Without iCloud, or to a device with another Apple ID: create a
backup on the old device, pass the file on and import it on the new one.
Android: the file is built so that the Android version of
myHandballStats reads it too, in both directions.
Deleting: the danger zone
At the very bottom of the settings are two actions that cannot be
undone:
Delete a season’s games: the games of selected seasons with their
stats. Players, teams and the seasons themselves remain.
Delete all data: everything. To confirm, you type a delete
word.
With iCloud sync on, both affect all your devices. So create a backup
file first.
