One person taps the goals, the other the saves – on two devices, in the same
match. No internet and no account: the devices talk to each other directly.
In short: the host starts a session inside a match and gets a
four-digit code. Helpers tap Join session on the home screen, pick the host and
enter their name and the code – the host confirms them and assigns the players they should
watch. From then on every tap lands in the host's match right away.
What you need
The same network. All devices on the same Wi-Fi – or the host opens a
personal hotspot for the helpers to join. Many sports halls have no
Wi-Fi at all, and the hotspot is the usual answer there. Nobody needs internet access,
only the shared network.
Premium on the host's device. Starting a session is a Premium
feature – helping is free. Helpers need the app, but neither a purchase
nor any data of their own.
A match that is still open. A finished (sealed) match cannot be
shared; entries from helpers would be rejected.
As the host: start a session
Open the match and tap the “…” menu at the top right →
Live session. If one is already running, the antenna icon is filled orange.
Pick a name and start. The name is what helpers see in their list –
“U18” beats “Andy's iPhone” when three teams are playing in the same hall.
Read out the code. Four digits, shown in large type. The code doubles
as the key that encrypts the connection.
Confirm each helper. When someone asks to join, their request appears
with their name – only your tick lets them in.
Assign players. Per helper either all players or a selection
from the squad. Someone watching only the goalkeepers gets only those.
Keep recording as usual. Your own tapping continues; the helpers'
entries flow into it.
End the session when you are done. It also ends as soon as you leave
the match view.
As a helper: join
On the home screen, top right, tap Join session – this works
with a freshly installed, empty app.
Pick the host. Sessions found nearby are listed by name.
Enter your name and the code. The host sees that name when confirming
you and when assigning players, so use your real first name.
Wait for the host to confirm. Then the recording screen appears: the
actions on top, your assigned players below.
Record. A tap counts +1, a long press takes back your last entry.
Under “Attributes” you can add the shot type, shot position and goal zone.
Worth knowing
The host's screen stays on. While a session runs the device will not
lock itself – that used to be the most common way a session died. Still, keep the app
in the foreground: once iOS suspends it, the connection drops.
Lost the connection for a moment? Keep tapping. A helper's entries
are collected and sent as soon as the host is back – even after restarting the app,
for up to 48 hours.
Nothing is left on the helper's device. Guest mode stores no
matches, players or statistics locally.
Undo only affects your own entries. The host's undo arrow never
removes what a helper tapped.
The code stays the same even if the app was away for a while – no
one has to type it again.
If something goes wrong
The host does not show up in the list
Almost always two different networks: guest Wi-Fi versus the normal one, or a device
still on mobile data. The quickest fix is the host's hotspot – let the
helpers join that. If it still fails, close and reopen the app on the host and start the
session again; the code stays.
“No connection – is the join code correct?”
The code is the key to the connection, so a single wrong digit produces exactly this
message. Read it off the host's screen and try again.
A helper waits forever to be confirmed
The request is sitting in the session view on the host's device and needs a tap. If that
view is closed, reopen it from the “…” menu inside the match.
Different app versions
If the versions differ too much, the app says so instead of half working. Update both
sides.
Try it once before it matters. Two devices, a test match, five minutes –
then the routine is there when the real game starts.
Opens the print dialog – choose “Save as PDF” there. The page is laid out for it.
